Project type: Interaction Design.
Deliverables: Sound files and code used to control the passive infrared (PIR) sensors.

Challenge + Solution

For this commissioned project, I collaborated closely with a community organization based in Glasgow. Together, we brought to life a collection of seven interactive sculptures that seamlessly integrated light and sound. The main challenge we faced was creating these interactive pieces within a limited budget while ensuring that each sculpture had its own independent sensors, LED lights, speakers, Arduino microcontrollers, and power banks.

My responsibilities encompassed research and editing of sound files, drawing from the rich archive of the Southbank Centre. The sound files were carefully curated to harmonize with the space and evoke a captivating sensory experience for visitors. Additionally, I took charge of developing the code that controlled the passive infrared (PIR) sensors, which triggered the activation of the LED lights and sounds as the audience interacted with the sculptures. Throughout the entire process, I provided assistance with the installation and offered ongoing technical support on-site during the festival.
